Ruth Doris Bradley

–

South Lake Tahoe, California

From Her Very Loved Son, Derric My mom was an amazing woman. She started the Aids Unit in Sherman Oaks Hospital along with other doctors and nurses. She also took care of cops, and helped deliver babies. The Citrus Heights and Sacramento PD knew her by name as a resource. Later in her career she worked all around northern California, sometimes working double shifts. She loved her career almost as much as she loved me. I will always miss the fun we had watching movies, the Super Bowl, TV shows, and playing Duck Hunt. That was the only video game she could play and she was good and competitive at it too! She did what she wanted to and didn't take crap from anyone, especially me. She always did what she set her mind to. Nothing describes the pain I feel from her loss. She was truly special, and I'm honored to call her mom. ****************** What I remember most about Ruthie is her infectious laugh. She found delight in ordinary daily life and in sports, summer or winter she'd prefer to be outdoors. And she loved family holidays; Easter was her favorite even though she didn't like chocolate at all when we were young. She loved running around our big backyard looking for eggs, and sometimes she would re-hide an especially pretty egg so that someone else could find it. She would coach the seeker, "you're getting warm-getting hot--no cold--hotter" and would let out her characteristic laugh when the treasure was found. Easter for her was a sport, and so was all of life, a sport she played with gusto all the way. Arlene Benedict ****************** My memories are probably different than most of yours. Ruth was several years older and had her own circles of friends, classmates, etc. My biggest memory is how she loved getting out on the boat. She would scrub cushions and wipe up and wash dishes in order to get the boat ready for the water. Once she got out on the boat she would go fishing with Dad and Mom and I. I remember when Dad started catching fish suddenly that was the lucky place to stand to catch your fish. So he and Ruth would jostle for position trying to get their pole in the water at the lucky spot! I also remember she went through a phase, here she wanted to be a California surfer girl. That was when the Beach boys hit the big time. She went so far as to buy a styrofoam surfboard and bring it home and fiberglass it in the basement. The dust was horrendous and the fumes were horrendous. I don't know how many brain cells we all lost in that project! Then she convinced Dad that wakeboarding would be great fun so dad took Ruth and I out with this giant surfboard it ---must've been 8 feet long- and toted behind the DARBEN while he cranked up that big engine and made awake and sort of like a water skier you would like to cut the way you would let go of the line in standup surfing. Wakeboarding?came to a sudden end when Dad had to cut the throttle suddenly and we discovered that a big boat stops much faster than a wakeboard. We discovered that it hurts to crash into the stern. That was the end of wakeboarding. Love to all, Richard Benedict ******************
