A Proud Remembrance ~ Gloria Anne Beane passed away on February 3, 2016, at her home in South Lake Tahoe. She was born in Oakland, California to Grace Veronica Brown and Alfred DeMartini. She was educated in the Bay Area, where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts and Education from Holy Names College. She taught all elementary and junior high grades, serving in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District for over 25 years. She also taught for five years in Yokohama, Japan at the St. Joseph International School. Gloria was ever a student of history and a champion for Civics in the classroom. She was an experienced traveler with many great journeying memories from East Asia, Europe and the Americas. Gloria's 19 year marriage to C. Arlie Beane resulted in two children, Kerry A. and Michael A. Beane. Gloria is best known as an enormously effective and fair teacher, who believed in mutual respect and diligent work. She loved her students and many of them, including some as far away as Japan, have kept touch long after graduating into adult life. During her brief illness, she received an overwhelming validation of her contributions as a teacher when she was repeatedly and warmly greeted by former students who are now successfully involved in the local medical professions. Gloria is survived by her children, her grandchildren, Alex and Christopher Beane, as well as by her brother David P. DeMartini and first cousins Carol J. Rowley and Richard Meyer.
