South Lake Tahoe, California
Charles (Charlie) Hamm, Jr. was born December 13, 1947, in Oakland, CA to Charles and Mary (Bea) Hamm. He went to St. Mary’s High School in Berkeley and Hayward State.
In 1957 his family spent the month of August at the resort on Fallen Leaf Lake and continued to do so for many years. His love for Tahoe moved him here in 1976. He was selling real estate and investing in his own properties.
In 1977, he met Sandi at dealing school at Harrah’s. They married in 1979. Jennifer was born in 1982 and Greg was born in 1984. He was in property management until his retirement. He enjoyed many years of substitute teaching. He loved working with kids, and he was a mentor at Tahoe Youth and Family Services as well as a Break-Out Leader at Sierra Community Church.
He raised his family to have a deep gratitude for God’s creation. He spent his life seeking outdoor adventures that brought him closer to God. He inspired many friends and family to join him on his Tallac hikes, and Bliss State Park camping trips. Charlie lived a passionate life filled with skiing, hiking, biking, paddle boarding, and boating on Lake Tahoe. His greatest joys were sharing his passions with his four grandchildren and traveling the country in his trailer with Sandi.
When he wasn’t enjoying nature, Charlie was spreading love and kindness with the Tahoe community through his many volunteer endeavors. His strong belief in serving others brought him to deliver Meals on Wheels, coordinate Bread & Broth, and help Hope Lutheran Church deliver lunches.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 47 years, Sandi, his cherished children, Jennifer (Pat) Ross, Reno, NV, Greg (Liz) Hamm, Half Moon Bay, CA, and his dear grandchildren, Will & Allison Ross and Stryder & Kinsley Hamm.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, JoAnne Ewing & Sharon Brunetti. He went to Heaven on July 26, 2026.
Celebration of Life will be held on September 4th at 2pm at Sierra Community Church.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Truckee Humane Society or Sierra Community Church.
